Sister M. Cyril Mooney, an internationally
recognized educational innovator, winner of the
2007 Padma Shri Award, native of Ireland, a sister
of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Loreto),
settled in India in 1956, emerging as a nationwide
leader in bringing quality education to urban and
rural poor children.
Her book, “Girls Are Our Future’ is a vivid
compilation of Sister Cyril’s forward thinking ideas,
including insights into innovative programmes like
‘Rainbow Homes’ the ‘Brickfields Project’ and
‘Barefoot’ teaching.
Sister Cyril, an institution by herself, visited PACE
Learning Centre multiple times during her 3-year
engagement with the school, along with
conducting a 3 year long training programme
‘Understand and Evaluate Education’ under the
Rotary Grant, for the teachers of PLC, making a
huge difference to their teaching skills.
She described PLC as an oasis in the desert and
congratulated the school management for their
exemplary contribution to the community,
providing PLC with every support during her
lifetime. She remains dear in the heart of the
school and PLC celebrates and honours her every
year on Sister Cyril Day, in gratitude for her
invaluable contribution.
